Low density lipoprotein (LDL)

One of two types of lipoprotein in the blood that transport cholesterol around the body. LDLs carry about three quarters of the cholesterol in the blood. High LDL levels usually reflct high cholesterol levels and imply a higher risk of heart disease. LDL cholesterol is also known as 'bad' cholesterol. See also cholesterol and HDL.
