In my efforts to bring you quailty articles and snippets of information, I stumbled across this little gem.
The BBC has an article on it's Science and Nature pages that I got to when I Googled 'Omega 3 Fish Oil'
It talks about studies in 12 schools across Durham, that affected 100 children, and talks about the changes in there behaviour after
taking various capsules which contained oils that were high in Omega 3.
Anyway, don't let me influence you, take a look yourself.

For Information: The problem mentioned yesterday with Omega 3 Fish Oil is unfortunately true with all Fish Oils.
So whilst you might find it very difficult to obtain Omega 3 Fish Oil, it'll be exactly the same for other products like Cod Liver Oil.
Apologies for this, but it really is out of www.medishop.co.uk hands.
5th October 2009
For Information: Omega 3 Fish Oil is in very short supply at the moment, there is an issue with the importing of this product into the UK. I'll find out more
tomrrow and post an update.
2nd October 2009
I Google'd 'Omega 3 articles' this morning and found a great article on the University of Maryland, website.
It talks about:
How Omega 3 Fatty Acids are essential acids. How Omega 3 cannot be manufactured by the body and therefore needs to be consumed.
The sources on Omega 3. How Omega 3 plays a critical role in brain and body development. The fact that Omega 3 consumption can be via supplements.
How Omega 3 is useful for treating a variety of other health conditions. How Omega 3 can be helpful in reducing Blood pressure.
And lots lots more, a very worthwhile read.

Here at www.medishop.co.uk we try and bring you interesting snippets on various things related to our range of Glucosamine, Chondroitin,
Omega 3 Fish Oil, Evening Primrose Oil and the various other Vitamins, Supplements, Minerals and Oil that we supply.
Today I typed in
Glucosamine into Google to see what would come up. I noticed an interesting article on the BBC website, Glucosamine for Arthritis. The doctor
involved summarises by saying "Since the 1980s there have been a number of studies of glucosamine sulphate.
This research has been of variable quality but it does seem to point to a positive effect.", but please don't let me quote the whole article, find it on Google,
page 1, position 3 after entering keyword glucosamine. Thanks for reading.

Hazards in the environment
There are various other reasons why people who maintain good eating habits might benefit from a daily supplemeny. Some practitioners believe that exposure to environmental
pollutants - ranging from car emissions to industrial chemicals and wates - can cause much damage inside the body at the cellular level, destroying tissues and depleting the
body on nutrients.
Many supplements, particularly thos that act as antioxidants, can help to control the cell and tissue damage that follows toxic exposure (see antioxidants later in the
article). Recent Evidence also indicates that certain medications, excessive consumption of alcohol, smoking or persistent stress may interfere with the absorption of
certain key nutrients. Even an excellent diet could not make up for such shortfalls. Specific nutritional programmes can be devised that take account of these and other
lifestyle factors that affect the nutrient levels in the human body.
16th September 2009
Meeting dietary targets
Goverment studies show thet the diets of many people in the UK contain only half the recommended amounts of magnesium and folic acid. About 50% of adult women and
more than 70% of adolescent girls have intakes of calcium that are below their respective RNIs of 700mg and 800mg.
Vitamins C and B6, as well ar iron and zinc, are other nutrients that are at notably low levels in the britisg diet. Even with the best nutritional planning it is hard
to maintain a diet that meets the RNIs for all nutrients. Vegetarians, for example, who as a group are healthier than meat eaters (and who tend to avoid junk foods
lacking in vitamins and minerals), may be deficient in some nutrients, such as iron, calcium and vitamin B12.
People on a low-fat diet will find it difficult to obtain the recommended daily amounts vitamin E from their food alone, because so many food sources for vitamin E
are high in fat.
Another problem is that a balanced diet may not contain some of the more specialised substances - fish oils, soya isoflavones or alpha-lipoic acid - that are now believed
to promote health
For a healthy person who is unable to eat a well-balanced diet every day, taking a supplement can fill the nutritional gaps or boost the levels of nutrients they consume
from adequate to optimum.(reference RDgtVMS - 2005)
15th September 2009
Who needs supplements?
Conventional medical wisdom holds that healthy people eho eat well enough to avoid specific nutritional deficiencies do not
need to supplement their diets. The only thing they have to do is make sure that their diets meet the RNIs - Reference Nutrient Intakes - published by the department
of health (see below).
Even if you accept the official standards for vitamin and mineral intakes are adequate for good health, the evidence is overwhelming that most
people in the UK fail to come close to meeting those requirements.
Most of us do not eat enough fruit and vegatables, and certainly not as much as five daily servings - the quantity recommended for obtaining the minimum level of nutrients
believed necessary to prevent illness.
We often make food choices that are nutritionally poor. For eaxmple, we are more likely to select chips than broccoli as a vegetable serving, and will opt for a fizzy soft
drink rather than a glass of semi skimmed milk. Eating these and other foods may not only contribute toomuch fat and sugar to our diet but can also result in intakes
of vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting phytochemicals that fall well short of ideal levels.(reference RDgtVMS -2005)
14th September 2009
"How supplements can benefit you
A multivitamin and multimineral supplement is often taken as an insurance against nutritional deficiencies,
but recent research provides good reasons for using a variety of supplements, including herbs, for both prevention
and healing - and indicates that optimum levels may be higher than previously thought.
If you are fundamentally healthy, is there any point in taking supplements on a regular basis?
If you develop a disorder or an ailment, can you expect supplements to help? What follows is a summary of the major benefits that,
according to scientific researchers, most people can expect if they use the supplement covered in this 'book'
More detailed information about the therapetic effects of specific supplements can be found in" subsequent entries - to be added.

Today I'm reverting back to releasing excerpts from the Reader's Digest - Guide to Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements. Fish Oils - Scientists
noticed a curiously low incidence of heart disease among Greenland Inuits despite their high-fat diet. The reason? They were eating fish rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.
Later studies confirmed the cardio-protective effect of fish oils while uncovering other benefits as well.
It goes on to say
Help to prevent
cardiovascular disease, including lowering levels of triglycerides (blood fats) Block disease-related inflammatory responses in the body.
May lower blood pressure. Oh, Happy Birthday, you know who you are!

Glucosamine helps to reduse arthritic back and neck pain.
Glucosamine may speed up the healing of sprains and strengthen joints, preventing future injury.
12th August 2009
There is a great publication out there called 'Reader's Digest Guide to Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements'.
The 'Guide' has an easy to read style and format, which is common to all the products it talks about, all of Medishop's products are in there, including Echinacea, which the guide suggests 'Reduces the body's susceptibility to colds and flu' and
'limits the duration and severity of infections'. Sounds very positive stuff. Another word tomorrow, thanks and good evening.

Yesterday I talked about product freshness, and the recent delivery of Glucosamine.
Today It's all about fomulations, ensuring you are comparing one suppliers Glucosamine and Chondroitin formulation with another's. Typically the lower doses on Chondroitin will make the product cheaper to produce and sell on.
Here at Medishop we have 2 Glucosamine and Chondroitin products, make sure your comparing like with like!
